The treatment
About deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage targets the layers of muscle and fascia beneath the surface. The therapist works slowly and with sustained, firm pressure — often across the grain of the muscle — to break down adhesions and release knots that a relaxation massage will not reach.
It is the treatment to book when a specific area has been complaining for weeks: the upper back from a desk, the neck from a phone, the calves from training. Expect it to be intense in places, and expect to feel the benefit for days afterwards.

What to expect
How the session runs
Consultation
We identify the specific areas that have been troubling you and agree a pressure level.
Warm-up
Lighter strokes warm the tissue so the deeper work that follows is effective rather than painful.
Deep, slow pressure
Sustained pressure with thumbs, knuckles and forearms — often across the grain of the muscle — releases knots and adhesions.
Ease-off
The session finishes with slower, lighter strokes so you leave loose rather than sore.
Questions
Deep Tissue Massage — your questions
Will deep tissue massage hurt?
There is a difference between productive discomfort and pain. Firm pressure on a knot often feels intense but should stay bearable — tell your therapist immediately if it does not, and the pressure will be eased.
Will I be sore afterwards?
Mild soreness for a day or two is normal, much like after exercise. Drink plenty of water and avoid a heavy workout that evening.
Can I have deep tissue work on just my back?
Yes. Many guests use the full session on the back, shoulders and neck alone. Say so at the start and we will spend the time there.
